Rangers Marching Band Earns Back-to-Back Superior Ratings
The evening began by honoring the Hamilton Township High School Marching Rangers, who once again qualified for the OMEA State Marching Band Finals and earned a Superior (1) rating for the second year in a row.
Under the leadership of Director Riley Robey, the Marching Rangers continue to set a high standard of precision, musical excellence, and school pride. Their hard work and performance quality have made them ambassadors for Hamilton Township and a source of pride for the entire Obetz community.
Varsity Boys Soccer: Back-to-Back Mid-State League Champions
Next, the Mayor and Council recognized the Hamilton Township Varsity Boys Soccer Team for winning the Mid-State League Championship for the second consecutive year—an accomplishment built on discipline, teamwork, and a fiercely competitive spirit.
The City also honored Head Coach Michael Sutherland, a Hamilton Local Schools alumnus who grew up in the community and now dedicates his time to shaping student-athletes in the district he once called home. Coach Sutherland received both the Mid-State League Soccer Coach of the Year award for the second year in a row and the 2025 Central District Soccer Coach of the Year award.
Varsity Football: 2025 Mid-State League Champions
The celebration continued with recognition of the Hamilton Township Varsity Football Team, who captured the 2025 Mid-State League Championship through hard work, perseverance, and determination.
Head Coach Tennyson Varney, also an alumnus of Hamilton Township High School, was honored for being named the 2025 Mid-State League Football Coach of the Year. The City additionally applauded Coach Varney and his team for their meaningful involvement with the Obetz Youth Football League, where their mentorship and example help shape the next generation of Rangers.
Competition Cheerleading Team Makes School History
The night concluded with a historic and heartfelt recognition of the Hamilton Township High School Competition Cheerleading Team, the first team in school history to qualify for the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida.
The UCA National Championship is widely regarded as the premier cheerleading competition in the nation. Since 1980, teams have earned their place only by securing a bid at one of approximately 50 sanctioned regional competitions—a rigorous qualifying process that makes Hamilton Township’s accomplishment especially noteworthy. Their electrifying 2025 Game Day Routine demonstrated the skill and determination that propelled them onto the national stage.
The Mayor and Council also recognized Head Coach Grace Yocum, a proud Hamilton Township alum, along with her dedicated coaching staff, for their leadership and commitment to elevating the program to this historic milestone. To support the team’s journey to Orlando, the Big Walnut Community Improvement Corporation presented a $5,000 donation to assist with travel and competition expenses.
