Reminder for Political Signs Ahead of Election Day
As Election Day approaches on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the City of Obetz reminds residents and candidates that there are local ordinances in place governing the placement of political signs. These rules ensure public safety, protect the appearance of our neighborhoods, and keep City rights-of-way clear for travel and maintenance.
Signs in the Right-of-Way
Under Section 1323.12 of the Codified Ordinances, no signs of any kind may be placed in the public right-of-way. The only exceptions are:
- Governmental signs, such as traffic control or directional signs; and
- Certain permitted signs in the central business district, provided they meet all requirements of the sign code.
Placing political or campaign signs in the right-of-way (such as along streets, intersections, or medians) is prohibited.
Political signs specifically must follow Chapter 1175.08 of the City’s Zoning Code. This ensures consistency in size, placement, and appearance, while maintaining neighborhood safety and aesthetics.
What Residents Should Know
- Do not place political signs in public rights-of-way, on utility poles, or on City property.
- Political signs are permitted on private property within City limits, as long as they comply with zoning rules.
- Signs must be maintained in good condition and removed promptly after the election.
If you have questions about sign placement or need clarification on the rules, please contact the Obetz Zoning Department at 614-491-1080.
Signs not following the regulations will be picked up by our Street Department. If your signs are collected, please call 614-491-1080 to claim them.
