Emergency Snow Parking Regulations Reminder

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Sunday, January 5, at 7 a.m. until Tuesday, January 7, at 12:00 a.m. As of Friday at 12:00 p.m., NWS meteorologists are forecasting 3-6 inches of snow Sunday night into Monday morning, which could create hazardous road conditions as you start your work week. If you must travel, ensure your car is ready:

  • Check tire pressure and fuel levels.
  • Prepare an emergency car kit with essentials such as:
    • Cell phone charger
    • Flashlight and extra batteries
    • Blankets, hats, and mittens
    • Shovel, water, and snacks
    • First-aid kit
    • Jumper cables
    • Road flares and spare tire

Obetz Crews Are Ready

Our crews are fully prepared and will be working diligently to address the winter weather. To help ensure their success, please take these steps:

  • Move vehicles and obstructions (e.g., trash cans, basketball hoops) off the streets to give plows full access to the roadways.
  • Be aware of Ordinance 351.13 (Emergency Snow Parking): Vehicles parked on the street with 2 inches of snow accumulation are subject to ticketing or towing. During snow emergencies, residents may temporarily park vehicles in their yards.

Parking Options During Snow Emergencies

If you don’t have room at home to move your vehicle, you may park at:

  • Obetz Athletic Club
  • Obetz Community Center
  • Junction Park
  • The additional Junction Park lot across from Obetz Hardware

Snow Removal Process

During a snow emergency, the primary focus is on clearing roads to ensure safety. Here’s what to expect:

  • Initial passes: Plows will clear a path down the middle of the streets to make them safe. Curb-to-curb cleanup typically occurs only after all roads have been addressed and the snow emergency is over.
  • Snow on curbs and driveways: Clearing curbs may result in snow being pushed to the ends of driveways and into easements. While this is unavoidable, our Service Department works quickly and efficiently to minimize the inconvenience.

Important Reminders

  • Move vehicles early: Anticipate snow accumulation and move your vehicles before the snow reaches 2 inches.
  • Keep trash bins off streets and curbs: This helps ensure plows can operate effectively and storm drains remain clear of ice and snow.
  • Return vehicles responsibly: Once the snow emergency is over and roads are cleared, vehicles can be moved back to the street. Use your best judgment.
