Who Maintains The Streetlights? City vs. AEP
Streetlights play a vital role in ensuring the safety and functionality of our community. If you notice a light pole that needs repair, knowing who owns it will help you report the issue to the right entity for a swift resolution. Here’s a guide to understanding which light poles belong to the City of Obetz and which are maintained by AEP, along with steps to report outages.
City of Obetz Light Poles
Description: City-owned light poles are black and proudly feature the City of Obetz logo.
Reporting Issues: If you see a malfunctioning City-owned light pole, please report it using the Obetz SeeClickFix platform. Our team will handle the repair promptly.
AEP-Owned Light Poles
Description: AEP light poles can be either black or wooden and have an AEP coordinates tag attached. These tags help AEP locate the pole quickly. The tag includes a series of numbers read from left to right, such as 1877-165-685-972 (pictured below), which are referred to as pole coordinates.
Neighborhoods with AEP Poles:
- Fairchild Estates
- Brett Court
- Pelham Drive
- Bridlewood Court
- Palomino Drive
Reporting AEP Issues:
- Call AEP at 1-888-710-4237 or report the issue online at their streetlight outage page: https://www.aepohio.com/outages/problem/
- Provide the pole’s coordinates (found on the tag) and the closest street address for accurate identification.
- AEP typically resolves issues within 2-3 weeks. However, response times may be delayed if AEP crews are addressing storm-related emergencies in other areas.
