Obetz Reimagines Lancaster Park: Be Part of History by Renaming It!
Calling all Obetz residents! The City of Obetz is embarking on an exciting project to revitalize Lancaster Park, a cornerstone project for 2024. This initiative goes beyond just a facelift; it’s about creating a vibrant community space that reflects Obetz’s unique identity and rich history.
Why a New Name?
While “Lancaster Park” might have made sense historically, as you know, Lancaster is another town in Ohio. No disrespect to our friends in Lancaster, but it’s time to give our park a name that truly represents Obetz!
We want YOU to be a part of this historic moment. Please help us choose a new name that captures the spirit of Obetz and resonates with our community.
Your Voice Matters!
We’re inviting residents to participate in a two-stage survey to select the park’s new name.
Here’s How to Get Involved: (Let’s Brainstorm Brilliance!)
- Suggest a Name: Take the survey by May 15th, 2024, to submit your ideas for the new park name. Let your creativity flow! Remember, we’re aiming for a name that reflects Obetz’s history and character, so avoid anything silly or offensive. 18th-century pirate ship names are probably not the best fit.
- Vote on Your Favorites: City staff will then compile the suggestions and present the top five contenders in a second survey launching on May 20th and closing on May 31st, 2024. This is your chance to vote for the name that resonates most with you.
The Final Decision:
The combined results of the resident vote and a single vote from the Mayor and each City Council member will determine the park’s official new name. Mayor Kirk will announce the final selection after the vote at the City Council meeting on June 10th, 2024.
More Than Just a Name:
The park revitalization project extends beyond the name change. Exciting improvements are planned, including:
- A brand new pickleball complex!
- New cornhole boards.
- Permanent game tables for ongoing community enjoyment.
