Role Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement dynamic public relations strategies to promote city initiatives and enhance community involvement.
  • Oversee the city’s digital communication channels, ensuring that social media and websites reflect our goals and community spirit.
  • Collaborate across departments to develop and distribute key communication materials, including press releases and newsletters.
  • Coordinate and participate in city events, necessitating availability outside standard working hours.
  • Utilize public feedback to shape effective public relations campaigns.
  • Provide media relations support, aiding in our communication endeavors without serving as the chief spokesperson.


  • A degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.  Master’s degrees are preferred.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience, preferably within public entities or large organizations.
  • Expertise in managing social media platforms and website content.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to support city events and emergencies.

Community Connection Preference:

  • A strong preference will be given to candidates who reside in Obetz or within a 10-minute commute. This preference is based on our belief that such candidates bring a valuable local perspective and a deeper understanding of the community dynamics and stakeholders.

Reporting Line:

  • This position reports directly to E. Rod Davisson, City Administrator.


  • The salary for this role ranges from $60,000 to $90,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
