YOUTH FOOTBALL AND CHEERLEADING REGISTRATION DEADLINE JULY 22, 2019 AT 5:00 PM.

Register now for the 2019 Obetz Youth Football & Cheer season!  Registration is extended through Monday, July 22, 2019 at 5:00 PM.  You do not need to live in Obetz to register for our youth sports. We accept all registrations. Register HERE.

Obetz Youth Football and Cheer is part of the Mini OCC this year! This is the largest youth football program in Central Ohio.  We are excited about this revamping of our program.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Divisions:

Divisions Status and Explanation as of July 19, 2019:

Mini Flag:
There is a chance that we may not field enough players and may need the flag players to play tackle.  There are currently 7 flag players signed up.  If flag is the only option for your player, you may want to seek another league with more players.  If your flag player is willing to switch to tackle, please let us know by emailing Jacob Gifford at jgifford@obetz.oh.us.

Mini Tackle:
There will be one traveling Mini Tackle team.  There are currently 17 players signed up.

Junior Tackle:
It looks like there will be one Junior Tackle team.  We currently have 8 players.  If you know 3rd or 4th graders, start recruiting.

Senior Tackle:
We have 24 Seniors signed up—which should be one team.  The decision we must make is whether that team competes in Senior Division I, or Senior Division II.  The Senior Division is the only Division that works this way.  That decision will be made based on the input of the Senior Coaches, Players, and Parents.

Cheerleading:
There will be one Cheerleading team for each Football team.  Right now, that looks like one Mini, one Junior, and one Senior team.

Registration:
July 22, 2019 is the deadline to register. The cost is $75 per player.

Obetz Youth Combine:
Obetz will host a Combine at Fortress Obetz on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 6:00 PM and Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 6:00 PM. The combine gives the kids an opportunity to measure their skill level and the coaches time to evaluate draft prospects for the teams. Your player must attend the Combine. There is no additional cost for the combine. Click HERE for the Combine rules and events.

After the Combine:
The coaches will draft the football teams immediately after completion of the Combine. Team assignments for cheer will occur at the same time as football.  Your Head Coach will notify you of your team assignment.  It will also be listed on Obetz’ website on Friday, July 26, 2019 by 5:00 PM. 

Conditioning Practices:
The first practices will be on July 30th, July 31st, and August 1st at 6:00 PM in Memorial Park.  These practices are mandatory conditioning practices.  All players must complete three conditioning practices before we issue them football equipment.

Equipment Distribution and Requirements:
Obetz will distribute helmets and shoulder pads on August 5th at 6:00 PM in Memorial Park.  Further details will be announced through your Head Coach. Players will be responsible for their own practice jerseys; practice pants (and pads); cleats (no metal); and, mouth pieces.

Regular Practices:
Regular practices are Coaches’ choice.  Teams may practice any or all days from Monday to Thursday.  No practices shall be scheduled for Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays without permission from the Obetz league.

Preview Game:
The Mini OCC will host a preview day (live scrimmages) on August 17th, 2019.  Exact times and locations will be announced.  This event will consist of the all the Mini OCC teams meeting at one facility and scrimmaging each other.

Season Dates:
The regular season schedule will be released after August 10, 2019.  Playoffs will take place at the end of October after the last regular season game.

Game Locations:
All home games will be played in Obetz at Memorial Park and Fortress Obetz. Away games will be played in surrounding areas including but not limited to: Groveport, Whitehall and Reynoldsburg.

Coaches:

Interviews for all coaches, new and returning, will begin on July 19th, 2019. Coaches will be contacted directly by Rod Davisson or Jacob Gifford to schedule a time and date for each interview.

All interested applicants must go through the interview process in order to be considered for a 2019 coaching position, head or assistant, regardless of previous coaching experience or location.

All coaches must undergo and pass a background check conducted by the Village of Obetz.  Prospective Coaches with substantial criminal records will be rejected at the sole discretion of the Village of Obetz.

Coach Training:
Coaches will be required to complete Coach training including, but not limited to: Sportsmanship, basic first aid, and other relevant football training laws (head injuries, heat stroke, etc.).

Parent Training:
All parents are required to attend the Sportsmanship training course.  The dates and times will be announced.
