Jim Wiley has served on the Obetz Village Council since January 1, 2008. He is a retired Air Force and Army member, serving in an enlisted and officer status for a combined 38 years. Jim graduated from Bradley University with a BS in Business Administration, then took Master’s studies in Small Business Administration at the University of Hawaii, and Public Administration at Central Michigan University. He graduated from the Air Command and Staff College and National Defense University, the latter as Outstanding Graduate in National Security Management.
Jim’s specialty was worldwide tactical employments, qualified in Communications, Maintenance, Logistics, Military Police, Staff , and Command. He holds the Meritorious Service Medal, two USAF Commendation Medals, Vietnam service, Combat Readiness, and Expeditionary medals, Army and Air Force Outstanding Unit awards, and the Marine Unit Citation, among others. He was awarded The Order of the Sword, given rarely by the enlisted force, in 1989 for outstanding service to the enlisted men and women of the Ohio ANG.
Jim came to Ohio from Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany in 1980. He was assigned to serve the Ohio ANG at Springfield ANGB and Rickenbacker ANGB. As a squadron commander at Springfield Jim took an under-strength combat communications unit from marginal status to the Air Force’s Outstanding Unit in two years. He became Great Lakes region reserve commander for Air University at Wright-Patterson AFB, supporting the Civil Air Patrol program, then transferred to an army uniform to serve as a training battalion commander for military police. While advancing from airman basic to lieutenant colonel, Jim retained a parallel enlisted track and ultimately reached Command Chief Master Sergeant of the Ohio CAP.
He married Bonnie (Holbrook) Wiley in 2001 during his last assignment at Rickenbacker ANGB and moved from the base to Obetz that year. He is a member of Block Watch and has served as President of the Obetz Historical Society, on the Big Walnut Community Improvement Corporation board, and on the Obetz Tax Incentive Review Commission.
