J. Michael Confer – Chief of Police
Obetz Police Chief, Mike Confer is a long-time veteran of the Obetz Police Department.
Raised in Southern Ohio, and after a stint out west, Mike attended the Police Academy with his first post after school serving at the Columbus Airport. Mike joined the Village of Obetz as a patrolman in 2003, qualified as a Master Patrol Officer, and was promoted to Sergeant in 2008. In that capacity, Mike completed the Supervisor Training and Education Program through the Law Enforcement Foundation and was assigned additional duties as the Department’s Administrative Sergeant.
In addition to his full-time Sergeant duties for the Obetz Police Department, Mike completed the Law Enforcement Foundation’s Police Executive Leadership College. When Obetz sought to hire a new Chief in the wake of a retirement, for the first time in more than a decade, the Village was able to finally promote a qualified officer already on its force serving the residents of the Village making Mike an easy, unanimous, selection to lead the Obetz Police force.
In addition to serving as Obetz’ Chief of Police, Mike is a member of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, is certified through the State of Ohio as a Police Instructor, and serves as a member of the Village’s Honor Guard.
