Obetz Awarded Lowe’s Hometowns Grant
The City of Obetz is proud to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of the 2024 Lowe’s Hometowns Grant—one of just 100 projects nationwide chosen to receive support for large-scale community space renovations. The $70,000 grant will directly support much-needed improvements to the Obetz Community Senior Center and the city’s food pantry, making these vital resources more accessible, functional, and welcoming for all.
With this funding, the City of Obetz will install a new ADA-compliant lift to ensure seniors and individuals with mobility challenges can fully utilize the Senior Center. A new patio with furniture will create a safe and relaxing outdoor gathering space, while the gymnasium will receive a fresh coat of paint to enhance its atmosphere. In addition, a dedicated storage area will be added to the food pantry to streamline operations and better serve local families.
These upgrades reflect the City’s commitment to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and compassionate community. By creating safer and more accessible spaces for seniors, veterans, youth, and families, Obetz continues to strengthen the local services that make it a great place to live.
Lowe’s Hometowns is a five-year, $100 million commitment to improving community spaces across the country. Now in its fourth year, the program is helping nonprofits and municipalities restore and revitalize the physical spaces that serve as the heart of their neighborhoods. With the help of Lowe’s red vest associates, this year’s projects include expanding food pantries, improving transitional housing, upgrading parks and gardens, and building restorative spaces for first responders.
Earlier this year, Lowe’s pledged to deliver 10 million square feet of community impact, recognizing the powerful difference that can be made when local needs are met with national support.
