Junction Park Splash Pad Transitioning to Residents-Only Access Beginning July 14

We want to share an important update regarding the splash pad at Junction Park. After hearing from many residents over the past several weeks, Obetz City Council held an open discussion during the June 23 City Council Committee of the Whole meeting and voted to transition the splash pad to a residents-only model, effective July 14, 2025.

This change applies only to the splash pad—the rest of Junction Park remains open to the public.

This decision was not made lightly. We received numerous concerns from local families who felt they could no longer fully enjoy the splash pad due to overcrowding, long wait times, and limited space. The splash pad is a valued amenity—funded and maintained by City of Obetz taxpayers—and we want to make sure it remains a safe, fun, and accessible space for the families who live here.

Beginning July 14:

  • Resident Access Only: Use of the splash pad will be limited to Obetz residents with a valid Obetz Black Card. More information about your Black Card can be found here: Black Card FAQ

  • Wristbands Required: Black Card holders must check in at the rental window to receive a wristband for entry.

  • Guest Policy: Each resident may bring up to two guests per visit. Guests must remain with the resident at all times.

  • New Signage: Updated signage will be posted at Junction Park, and additional information will be shared on our official social media channels.

Additional Rules and Reminders:

  • The splash pad is for children 12 and under and their guardians.

  • Individuals over 12 should not use the splash pad.

  • Those 16 and older may only be on the pad when actively supervising a young child.

  • Adults and teens should not sunbathe or lounge in the splash pad area without a child present.

  • Grills are not permitted in Junction Park. Charcoal grills are prohibited in all Obetz parks for safety reasons.

City staff will be on-site daily to help ensure these guidelines are followed.

If you are a resident and do not yet have a digital Obetz Black Card, please email blackcard@obetz.gov to request one before July 14.

We understand this change may cause some inconvenience, but we believe it will help restore the splash pad as a welcoming, family-friendly space for Obetz children and their guardians. Thank you for your continued support and feedback as we work to enhance the quality of life in our community.
