OCC Launches Summer Open Gym Program
The Obetz Community Center is excited to offer open gymnasium times this summer as part of our seasonal recreational programming. Whether you’re a kid learning the basics, a teen looking to stay active, or an adult hoping to get in a friendly pickup game, we’ve got something for everyone.

Dates: June–August
Location: Obetz Community Center Gymnasium
Sports Offered: Basketball, Volleyball, Pickleball
Maximum Capacity: 35 participants per session

- Family Volleyball Open Gym | Ages 4-17 with Parent/Guardian | 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM

- Youth Basketball Open Gym | Ages 13-17 | 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
- Adult Basketball Open Gym | Ages 16+ | 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Entry & Guest Policy

All participants must check in at the front desk.

Obetz Black Card members may bring one guest free of charge.

Guests must remain with the Obetz Black Card member at all times.

Non-residents are not permitted unless attending as a guest.
Code of Conduct Highlights
To keep the space safe and welcoming, please remember:

Be respectful to everyone.
-
Wear non-marking shoes and appropriate gym attire.
-
No food, drinks, drugs, alcohol, or weapons.

Self-officiated games only — staff will not referee.
-
Include others and ensure everyone has a chance to participate.
Violations may result in immediate removal from the gym.
Game Play & Capacity Guidelines

35 participants max per session.
-
If 6+ people are present: transition to 3v3 or 5v5 games.
-
If fewer than 6, participants may opt for skill work or shoot-arounds.

Players self-organize teams and keep track using the whiteboard.

No team practices, rec leagues, or AAU sessions during Open Gym. Teams may inquire about private rentals to Kerri Doddroe at kdoddroe@obetz.gov.
Monitoring & Management
Open Gym will be staffed to:

Monitor attendance and manage capacity.

Enforce conduct rules.
-
Maintain cleanliness and safety.
-
Address conflicts — not to officiate games.
If capacity is reached, a waitlist will be implemented.
