National Weather Service Confirms EF0 Tornado in Obetz

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington has confirmed that a tornado briefly touched down in southern Franklin County on the evening of March 30, 2025, impacting parts of Obetz. The tornado, rated EF0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, reached peak wind speeds of 85 mph and caused minor structural and tree damage across a 2.58-mile path.

According to the official damage survey, the tornado began at approximately 10:10 p.m. just south of I-270, west of Lockbourne Road. It moved quickly through the area, causing damage to carports and homes in the Enchanted Mobile Home Park and Butler Farms subdivision. The tornado then crossed Lockbourne Road and the Outerbelt, hitting residential areas north of Groveport Road, including Bridlewood Blvd and Thelma Drive, where the strongest winds were recorded.

In addition to roof and siding damage, several trees were uprooted, and scattered debris was found throughout affected neighborhoods such as Pelham Place, Poplar Street, and Jermoore Road. The tornado is believed to have dissipated just west of Alum Creek Drive around 10:13 p.m.

Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported.

The City of Obetz thanks the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency and local residents who provided timely reports and assisted with damage assessments. The city continues to coordinate with emergency services to ensure recovery efforts are completed efficiently.
