Snow and Travel Advisory

Snowfall is expected on Sunday, with an estimated 1.2 inches accumulating throughout the day. Snow squalls may develop in the afternoon, potentially impacting visibility and travel. Residents are advised to plan accordingly and take precautions on the roads.

Very cold temperatures are forecast to persist through Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Safety Tips for Extreme Cold

To stay safe during this weather event, remember to:

  • Minimize travel when possible.
  • Stay indoors during the worst of the cold.
  • If travel is necessary, keep a winter survival kit in your vehicle and check your tire pressure, antifreeze levels, and heater/defroster.
  • Learn how to shut off water valves in case of a pipe burst.
  • Check on elderly neighbors or relatives.
  • Bring pets indoors to keep them safe.

Protect Your Home

To prevent frozen pipes, residents are encouraged to:

  • Let faucets drip to keep water moving through pipes.
  • Open cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around plumbing.

Taking these simple steps can help you avoid costly damage to your home during the extreme cold.

Dressing for Cold Weather

When heading outside, dress appropriately to protect yourself:

  • Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing and a hat.
  • Mittens, snug at the wrist, offer better protection than gloves.
  • Cover your mouth with a scarf or mask to shield your lungs from the frigid air.
  • Stay dry and shield yourself from the wind whenever possible.
