Lacrosse – Your new favorite sport

Did you know that lacrosse was invented by Native Americans? Lacrosse started out as a tribal ritual for Native Americans to play before going to war. Since its creation, it has been considered a collision sport like football and hockey.

Lacrosse is becoming one of America’s favorite sports. US Lacrosse reports that nearly 750,000 people play on organized teams in the US. Youth lacrosse is one of the fastest growing aspects of the sport, and since the early 2000’s, it has grown exponentially. Youth lacrosse participation (15 and under) remains the age level with the highest participation rates in the sport. Over the last decade, no other high school sport has grown faster than lacrosse.

Here in Obetz, we’re lucky enough to have the professional side of the sport right here in our own backyard. Major League Lacrosse was founded in 1999 and consists of nine teams. The Ohio Machine previously played their home games at Ohio Dominican, but found a new home in Fortress Obetz where they have become a great addition to the Obetz community.

So, when you find yourself looking for something to do on a Saturday evening, walk down the street with your family to our community’s professional venue (not a lot of people can say that) to check out one of the most exciting sports you’ll ever witness. Also, be sure to get to games early for the live music concerts.
